Introducing #craftastherapy on Instagram

#craftastherapyI am really excited to introduce the #craftastherapy hashtag on Instagram. Over the past few years crafting and creating has become a huge part of my life and has helped me get through the toughest of times. I have spoken to a lot of fellow crafters about the benefits of using craft as a method of therapy and so many agree that time spent crafting is relaxing and therapeutic. I have heard many storiesย about how craft has helped provide stress relief during mental or physical hardship. Whether it is learning a new skill or revisiting a previous hobby, time spent creating is good for the mind and body.
Upcycled atlas wreathย A number of clever, crafty instagrammers have already started using the hashtag. The #craftastherapy feed is filling up with inspirational and beautiful images.ย I hope to share projects here on the blog from the #craftastherapy feed, so please feel welcome to join in and tag your crafty projects with this hashtag. Or if you’d like to share your story and have a feature of your own, i would love to hear from you.ย stitching on embroidery hoopThe above sweet stitchery is by Robyn from @shopsewrobyn and is made on a canvas of vintage sheets. Robyn was kind enough to share her story with me – in October just past, she suffered a miscarriage and used her newly acquired skill of hand-embroidery to help her get through the waiting and recovering time. She said, “I could just sit and stitch and think as much or as little as i wanted, and have the comfort/satisfaction of making and completing something beautiful with my hands, even though my body had failed me in other ways at the time”.

Robyn aka @crochetgirl99 is super talented with the hook and her own feed is full of stunning creations. She calls this projectย her “summer loving” blanket.ย weaving projectsThis unique weave made by Anna aka @ansiesย also features in the #craftastherapy feed along with some of her other inspiring projects. Her weaves are like nothing i have ever seen before and feature lots of natural and foraged materials.

Forty9L Artworks in the house!

Forty9L Artworks - Morning Dew by Jacinta HaycockRedAgape Guesthouse is now the new home of some delightfully quirky artworks by Jacinta Haycock from Forty9L Artworks. These beautiful creations are for guests to admire and purchase when staying in the house. They are a perfect match for the house, so much so I’m trying to resist the temptation to buy one or two myself.Forty9L Artworks - Morning Dew by Jacinta Haycock Forty9L Artworks - Morning Dew by Jacinta Haycock
There are four of Jacinta’s artworks featuring in the house at the moment. The first is ‘Morning Dew’ which has slotted into the parlour seamlessly. The deep dark walls really accentuate the colours in this gorgeous painting.Artist Jacinta Haycock
The other three paintings are hanging in an eclectic cluster on the stairway. Here is ‘Red Dog’, ‘Deer oh Deer’ and ‘Freedom’.ย Forty9L Artworks - Red Dog by Jacinta Haycock Forty9L Artworks - by Jacinta Haycock forty9Lartworks1 Forty9L Artworks - by artist Jacinta Haycock

Forty9L Artworks by Jacinta Haycock

Forty9L ArtworksI met the beautiful Jacinta Haycock from Forty9L Artworks this week for coffee and feel like i’ve made a friend. Jacinta approached me late last year to see if i’d like to display some of her paintings in the guesthouse. I had already tossed around the idea of hanging local artist’s paintings in the guesthouse, but with Mum’s illness and passing last year the project just didn’t happen. With the new year in full swing it’s definitely time to add some fresh new art into the house.

I really love Jacinta’s paintings. They feel real, authentic not forced. Just looking at them makes me feel happy. And although I’ve admired her work on her Facebook page, seeing them in real life is the only way to do them justice. Her paintings are full of heart and are delightfully quirky making them the perfect fit for RedAgape. Jacinta has generously allowed me hang a range of her paintings for sale (acrylics and oils on canvas or board) in the house. These artworks are currently behind bubble wrap so you’ll have to stay tuned for shots of them in the house.

RedAgape featured on Recycled Interiors

accommodation millthorpeIt was pretty exciting to have RedAgape Guesthouse featured on Recycled Interiors last week. Helen Edwards is passionate about homes with heart and i was honoured to have been invited to share my house on her blog.

Her site is perfect for anyone wanting inspiration and styling ideas using recycled items and materials. I’m so proud that RedAgape is full of character filled pieces that i’ve sourced from various locations, often saving them from landfill.

You’ll find my feature here and all sorts of inspiration throughout her blog.

Thanks Helen!
