Homemade Headboard and another room complete.

There are many DIY tutorials for handmade headboards, but I loved the one that I saw on the Davisvilledesign blog. I couldn’t wait to try it out!!

I used an art canvas, 2inch foam, wool batting, Amy Butler fabric, calico fabric and a staple gun. I didn’t tell Johno I’d bought a staple gun. He worries about my hands and panics whenever I’m using any tools, my sewing machine or knives. It may have something to do with me losing the top of my finger in a childhood accident, or maybe because I managed to sew a machine needle all the way through one finger, or perhaps it’s just because of the multiple burns and incisions that I’ve inflicted on my hands over the years. Anywho, I didn’t tell him I was buying a staple gun. The staple gun was awesome!!

I started by placing the foam on top of the canvas and securing it with the wool batting. This helped create a nice smooth base for the fabric. I may have mentioned before that I love Amy Butler fabric. This one is pretty and Girly without being over the top fussy. I fastened this on over the wool batting and made sure the corners were tucked in neatly.

Finally I attached some calico to the back just to keep it nice and tidy. Ta Da!! All done!! With the headboard all done it means the king single guest room is complete! Yay! 🙂

  1. Mandy you have such a good eye. I absolutely love your styling, I particularly love the bird pillow. This room like the rest of Winterfell is gorgeous

    • Thanks Crafty Carp! I’m still waiting for you to start a blog…mostly so I can pinch your ideas. 😉 I bought a yellow chenille jeldi at a secondhand store last week and it reminded me of you.

    • Thanks Nicola. I loved making this headboard, as it was completely doable for someone with few diy skills. The staple gun was a great investment and I can’t wait to try another headboard. I’m thinking of investing in a jigsaw for the next one! 😉

  2. It DOES kind of sound like maybe there should be some concern about you using possibly sharp/dangerous craft tools! 🙂

Headboard looks fantastic…and fairly simple to make. I’ve been wanting to swap out our current head/foot board for a different style bed. There are so many neat DIY ideas, but I haven’t managed to commit to any of them. This one is good since if you get tired of the fabric you can easily change!

    • I hadn’t thought about being able to change the fabric! That’s a great idea because I get bored quickly.

And yes, my hands are a mess. I’m thinking of making a headboard out of mdf next time and creating lots of curves. I might need to invest in a jigsaw…..don’t tell Johno. 😉

  3. That looks great Mandy and I love the “bird” pillow as well. Let’s not mention to Johno that I’m giving you a nail gun for Christmas! xox
